World Rose Day

Rose day is observed to let all cancer patients aware that they can face the disease with strong willpower and spirit. Its observed on every year September 22. Alertness about cancer is important not only for supporting the patients, but also for preventing it. Awareness programs on the Rose day also make normal people aware of the importance of being cautious about cancer.

Why Rose Day is Considered?

World Rose Day is observed in the memory of 12-year-old Melinda Rose from Canada who was diagnosed with Askin’s Tumour, a rare form of blood cancer.

Melinda Rose small life touched the lives of many. She, till her last breath, did not give up hope of survival. In the last six months of her life, she continued to fight and made each day count by touching the lives of those around her in a positive way.

Sir Tom Jones’s wife of 59 years has died after a “short but fierce” cancer illness.

Lady Melinda Rose Woodward, who was known as Linda, passed away at hospital in Los Angeles on Sunday morning surrounded by her husband and loved ones, a statement said.

“Sir Tom and his family have asked for privacy at this difficult time,” it continued.

The singer recently cancelled a string of international tour dates including in Japan and the UAE due to a “serious illness in his immediate family”.

Sir Tom and Lady Melinda married in 1957 when they were 16. Both the children of coal miners, the pair both grew up in Pontypridd in south Wales and started dating at the age of 15 having known each other since they were 12. The couple has one son, Mark who is also the “Delilah” singer’s manager, who was born shortly after they married.

What is Cancer?

Cancer is the uncontrolled growth of abnormal cells anywhere in a body. These cells can infiltrate normal body tissues.  In chronic stage the cancer cells break away from their original mass of cells travelling through blood and lymphatic system infecting cells of other organs and cause uncontrolled growth cycle.

This process of cancer cells leaving an area and growing in another body area is called metastasis. For instance if a breast cancer cells spread to a bone, it means that individual has metastatic breast cancer to bone. This is not same as bone cancer which would mean the cancer started in the bone.
